Writing a compelling personal statement

Guided by an interactive worksheet and a customized slide deck, sociologist and university professor Alfred Babo and "joy coach" Kimberly Kenyon helped participants begin to develop a personal statement that captured their strengths, experiences, and aspirations.

Dr. Alfred Babo is an alumnus of both the IIE Scholar Rescue Fund and Scholars at Risk and sits on the Scholars at Risk Network board. A native of Côte d’Ivoire, he undertook his fellowship at Smith College in 2012-13 and is now an associate professor of sociology & anthropology at Fairfield University. His research focuses on sustainable development, social change and community development, immigration, and post-conflict society.

Kimberly Kenyon has more than three decades of experience as a coach, consultant, and instructional designer. As a former senior lecturer and Associate Director of Cornell University's Center for Teaching Innovation and current Senior Consultant at Cornell, Kim excels at creating dynamic learning environments.
