This informal conversation on January 9, 2025 featured Dr. Funmilola Ayeni, a microbiologist who was an IIE Scholar Rescue Fund fellow at Vassar College in 2019–2021 and is now a tenure-track professor. Carly O’Connell of the Scholar Rescue Fund was the host.
Dr. Ayeni pursued her undergraduate education at Federal University of Technology in Akure, Nigeria, and her graduate education at the University of Ibadan in Ibadan, Nigeria. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Her research focus is on the use of food as medicine in combating bacterial antibiotic resistant strains and the influence of various factors on the human microbiome.
